About Us |
Wild Carrot (aka
Bridge Street Workers Co-op ) came into existence in August 1996 when it
became clear that in it’s previous incarnation, Dandelion Days, it was going to close, leaving Buxton and the surrounding area
without an independent vegetarian and organic shop. Therefore a group of local people banded together, raised
some funds, formed a co-operative and purchased the business.
We set up as a
co-operative because we supported the idea of mutual aid as a successful
model for a business. Setting ourselves up as equally responsible meant we
would all be pulling in the same direction, namely that of creating a
successful and happy business. It
was, and still is, obvious to us that if we are all interested in the
well-being of the company, then we will all work together for the common
benefit. Through unity is strength.
We also based
the business on the underlying principle of a healthier and more sustainable
lifestyle based on a very tasty eating experience! We genuinely know and care about what we sell.
This means we do not stock products that are genetically modified or
involve animal cruelty. We place a strong emphasis on organic, locally
produced goods and fair-traded products.
